This is a very big step. Saputo is a big dairy processing company.
They have decided to refuse milk from any dairy that mistreats the cows.

They are basically setting a standard that farmers must meet if they want to sell their milk. This is a big step for any company to make.

I see change for the better. There is still a long way to go, but it is an important step forward.

I really like this. It's a good step forward. I am very pleased to see animal welfare issues now coming into the spotlight more, and companies (and consumers) caring more. Of course it will affect a company's profits, so that is the main motivation, but thank goodness, is all I can say.

I am sure a lot of these changes are thanks to the internet, social media, and the power of the people!

This is true. We are able to find out what is going on. I bought cheese(on sale so I froze most of it) and I bought it from the company that refuses milk from cows that are mistreated.

We want our food to be cruelty free.
This is a big statement of concern for animal welfare. All these companies making these statements are saying very clearly that they care about animal welfare. Those of us who are informed, do care.

It's about time, right?
Hopefully this company will set a new standard for others to follow.
You guys are right, money is always a big motivator. So let's hope this company sees good profits and if nothing else companies will follow their lead if even to improve their bottom line.
Although I would like to think their conscience would be their guide, lol!!

I would love to see conscience as a motivator. I would be very happy if people did what was right for animals just because it is right.

However I will settle for them doing the right things to protect their profits. Very likely that is the best we will ever get. The result will still be the same for the animals. That is the important thing.

Exactly, it's all about the end result. How we get from here to there is a technicality, lol!
Not really, but it is what it is and we take what we can get.

I have no illusions that most people do the right things for the right reasons. People don't drink and drive because we have so many check stops on the road. They still text and drive because we haven't found a way to catch them.

If the standard of farm animal care improves for financial reasons, it still improves. It is a bold move for some companies. They are betting that enough people care to make it worth their while. I hope they are right.
