New breeding facility given permission in UK - LPC - 07-29-2015 This is very bad news. Yorkshire Evergreen (part of a USA company) has been given permission by the UK Government to build a large breeding facility for laboratory animals (mostly beagles and ferrets) - despite two years of protests, petitions and appeals. See http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2015/07/16/animal-testing-beagle-puppy-farm-plans-approved-yorkshire_n_7808812.html The parent company, B&K, already has a criminal record for animal cruelty. Recently, some of their directors were prosecuted and imprisoned for cruelty in Italy. See http://savetheharlanbeagles.com/bandk-dog-breeding-application-convicted.html and also http://savetheharlanbeagles.com/ewExternalFiles/2014-Greenill%20-Judgment-translation-May-15.pdf (details of the judgment). Yet the UK Government has overridden the local decision to refuse the application and decided that it can go ahead. At the same, illogically, the British Government is claiming that it aims to reduce the numbers of animals used in experiments! How a company with criminal convictions for animal cruelty can get permission to build yet another facility truly makes the mind boggle! If you wish to sign a petition of objection to the UK Minister, please go here: http://www.animaljusticeproject.com/urgentaction RE: New breeding facility given permission in UK - Tobi - 07-30-2015 How the British government can allow convicted criminals like this to open a new "breeding farm" I do not know. Especially as their crimes were those of animal cruelty. I signed that petition. Thanks LPC for posting it. RE: New breeding facility given permission in UK - Catherine - 07-30-2015 I have been hearing about this. Now I get what was being talked about. In a world that is shifting away from animal testing why would a company get permission to breed animals for animal testing. At every stage there will be people protesting it. If it ever opens there will be people fighting to shut it down. People are starting to boycott anything that is the product of animal testing. It is a step back into the dark ages. |
