Some liquids dogs can't have - Ruth - 05-30-2016

Here are some liquids that dogs should not have:

Thank you Ruth!
It's good to remember what dogs shouldn't drink (that we humans take for granted) -as well as what they shouldn't eat.

I can add some more also:
Coffee and tea (caffeine is toxic)
Coca Cola (caffeine again and way too much sugar for a dog's system. Diet Coke is even more dangerous as it contains artificial sweeteners. Some can literally kill dogs.)
Beer -or any alcohol ( dangerous for dogs and can be an actual killer for cats, whose livers cannot process even tiny amounts.)

The problem with dogs and chlorinated swimming pools is that most of them LOVE jumping into pools! And you can bet that a dog will drink some too. A better plan would be to have a special 'doggy pool' ...an inflatable one would work for a smaller dog, and fill it with plain hosepipe water.

Thank-you for posting the list. I never thought about Gatorade. I won't drink it either. I never thought about pool water. I suppose you could give your dog a good drink before a swim and then rinse it off after the swim. I don't like swimming in chlorinated water either.

I would think most fruit juices are too sweet for dogs and of course antifreeze is a real danger because dogs  like its sweet taste.

You are welcome Tobi.  And thank you for posting the additional items!

We forget that our canine friends are not human and can't eat what we eat. It is up to us to know what is safe and refuse to give them anything else. It is good to read a list and know what is safe and what is not.

Dogs can eat some of the things humans eat like veggies and some fruit. The Vet told me it's okay.

Dogs can eat many things that we can eat. It is best to check if you are not sure.

I have a list of what not to give a dog. Suzy and I enjoy strawberries, bananas, blueberries, pears, carrots, broccoli, potatoes without the skin, celery, tofu, beans, tomatoes and probably more I can't remember right now.

I always like to check. I understand that dogs shouldn't eat grapes. Maybe one or two would be fine, but I think they can make a dog sick.

It sounds like there is a risk and you wouldn't know how much until your dog gets sick. It isn't worth the risk.

Dogs should not have any grapes, raisins or avacadoes, or garlic or onions.
