Moonsoon floods in India kill Rhinos - Catherine - 08-20-2017

Sadly the monsoon floods in India have flooded Kaziranga National Park. Eighty percent of the park is flooded and there have been serious losses of animals. At least one tiger and 185 deer are dead. At least 15 Rhinos are dead. Survivors have had to leave the park and are at risk from poachers.

It is very sad when there is this much loss of life and yes, many people have died as well.
Animals like the Rhinos are so endangered that any losses are tragic.  This is another negative result of habitat loss. Many animals lime Rhinos are becoming restricted to parks and reserves. They are safe there until something happens to the park. Then their safe place becomes their danger. What was that about putting all your eggs in one basket. I hope we are spreading populations of endangered species around in a number of safe places so that things like serious flooding don't put a species survival at risk.
