300 dogs flown out ahead of Hurricane Maria - Catherine - 09-21-2017 Sali Gear, a Virginia Beach woman who is involved in rescuing dogs, planned to rescue a few at a time from the Virgin Islands after Hurricane Irma hit. With Hurricane Maria bearing down as a serious hurricane she knew she had to act fast. With help she chartered a plane and flew 300 dogs out at once. http://pilotonline.com/news/local/virginia-beach-woman-chartered-plane-to-rescue-animals-as-hurricane/article_12bed6c6-486a-5a6d-aedf-72d24ee6ed60.html These dogs may have been through a lot, but they are lucky dogs. They were saved from a second hurricane and now they will find good homes with loving people and life will be good for them. The response to animals in need has been amazing. I am sure we will never hear all the stories, but every story we hear is more incredible than the last one. In the face of disaster people can be amazing. RE: 300 dogs flown out ahead of Hurricane Maria - Tobi - 09-22-2017 I just read about that tonight. What a hero she is. Those dogs are very lucky. I saw some footage of Maria's effect on Puerto Rico. It is very sad indeed what has happened there. RE: 300 dogs flown out ahead of Hurricane Maria - Catherine - 09-22-2017 I found some pictures. Most of the homes are beyond repair. Wind and rain are so destructive. Everywhere is damaged. https://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=5&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwiOoeathLjWAhWCsFQKHWoBCIoQFghAMAQ&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.latimes.com%2Fnation%2Fla-na-puerto-rico-hurricane-20170921-story.html&usg=AFQjCNE25tfBYyGwgUGs5w_udjv7TroIuA Getting the 300 dogs out of the area was the only way to save them. I doubt the shelters are in any position to look after animals right now. |
