Vote for Australian Bird of 2019 - Catherine - 10-28-2019

It turns out Australia is having a bird of the year contest. I looked over the list and I know more of the birds than I expected.
I don't know who should win, but it is fun to see who is in the running.

I don't know who is eligible to vote. If I can decide which bird I like best I might try voting. I like the little Gouldian Finches, but Kookaburras are interesting. I even noticed budgies on the list and crows. I always like crows. Maybe they should have a top ten birds.

It seems like the Australian Bird of the Year contest is quite lively. There is going to be a run off between the top ten birds.

I am amazed at the intensity of the voting. People clearly care about this. I am going to be interested to see which bird actually wins.

The results are in! The Black Throated Finch is the 2019 Australian Bird of the Year. The Tawny Frog Mouth came in second.
For the rest of the list yo can check out the article.

I am amazed at the number of votes cast. People were quite passionate about it. These birds are endangered and at risk so it is good that they are being featured. I think it is wonderful that a finch won. There were other kinds of finches in the running so the Black Throated Finch must be special.
The Tawny Frog Mouth came in second and they are a funny little bird. They didn't lose by much.

It is good to see that much interest in birds. If birds are going to survive we need to take their needs seriously. We have to protect habitats and stop deforestation. The Black Throated Finch has won 2019 Bird of the Year.  Let us hope that they survive and even increase in numbers this year.
