Calgary Zoo gets a new Silverback Gorilla. - Catherine - 07-15-2020
Calgary Zoo has a troupe of western lowland gorillas. In 2016 they lost their silverback male, Kakinga and they have been searching for a new silverback ever since.
It is not such an easy task. There are a number of troupes of western lowland gorillas and a number of available males. They had to choose the right male genetically and he had to be the right male in other ways. Jasiri, a 21 year old male from Atlanta zoo is the lucky bachelor.

It seems he is the right choice. The girls like him and he likes them. He wants to be near the girls and they want to meet him.
He quarantined for 3 months so he is more than ready to settle in with his new family. I wish them every happiness as a new gorilla troupe.
Dare we hope for little ones next year.
