Sumatran Orangutan gives birth at New Orleans Zoo - Catherine - 03-03-2021 It was believed that 12 year old Reese, the orangutan was pregnant. It is her first pregnancy and signs indicated April/May as a due date. Imagine the surprise when zoo keepers at the Audubon Zoo of New Orleans arrived to find her holding a new born. She is holding it very well too. Clearly she is a good mother and knows what to do. https://people.com/pets/endangered-orangutan-gives-birth-early-audubon-zoo/ There are so few Sumatran Orangutans. Having another birth is a cause for celebration. Having a first time mom do so well is a happy thing. No doubt she learned her skills from her mother. The baby looks healthy and happy. It just feels good to look at a baby orangutan snuggle with her mother like that. |
