International Bat Week - Catherine - 10-26-2021

This is International Bat Week.  It runs from October 24-31.
Bats are more important than most people realize. Many bats are pollinators. We need them as much as we need bees and other pollinating insects.
Bats are seed dispersers like many of our birds. We need them to disperse seeds to keep a healthy diversity of plants.
Bats eat insects. Many of them eat mosquitos. Think of how bad the mosquitos would be without bats out there every night eating them. They eat a lot of other insect pests that would destroy our food sources.
In other words we really need bats.

This is a good week to remember all we have to be thankful for from our bat friends.
I think I will go out at dusk and see if I can see them at work.
