California Condor double clutches - Catherine - 03-07-2022

California Condors normally lay one egg a year. Their numbers are few so it is a big deal when a female lays a second egg. Even one more Condor helps the species survive.
Sadly 9 Condors were lost in the California wildfires of 2020. Having an extra chick this year is a hopeful sign for the species.

The fight to save the California Condors has been going on for many years. I can imagine how they felt when they found an extra egg.
This is a real conservation success story. It has been slow, but the Condors are making a comeback.

I would love on day to go to California and see the Condors fly in the wild.  They are a magnificent bird and they belong in the skies of California.
