In a contest between a dog and cat over who gets a box, I think the cat wins every time. It certainly won this time.

Dogs like boxes, but cats are drawn to them and just can't let them go. The poor dog should have let the cat choose a box and then hope the cat lets him have the box that is left over. The cat is capable of claiming both.
