De-extinction of the Tasmanian Tiger? - Catherine - 01-30-2023
The Thylacine or Tasmanian Tiger as they are commonly called was driven to extinction in the 1930s. People still claim to have seen them, but so far there is no hard evidence. There are people working on bringing them back from extinction using DNA from specimens. There are also people willing to fund the project.
The technology to do this does exist now. It won't happen soon, but it could happen.

This is like the woolly mammoth project. The will to bring the mammoths back is there and the means are there. It is only a matter of time.
I think the people working on the Tasmanian Tiger de-extinction project are determined. It will be complicated and it will take time, but I think they will do it.
We have driven this and many other species to extinction. Maybe we have an obligation to bring them back. They also might serve to stabilize ecosystems if they are returned. All we can do is wait and see.

Four years is not much. I would love to see the mammoths roaming the Canadian arctic. I think they belong there.
