There is always tension between horse lovers and those that call them pests. There have been calls to cull them and catch and sell them. The ones they sell end up at slaughterhouses. This time someone has gone to a lot of work to shoot 17 horses. They were not all in the same area and it was a bit remote.
The killing has been condemned. The overall attitude to the horses is being protested.

The horses just want to live their lives in peace. They were probably brought to North America and released in the first place. They didn't ask to be here.
We have certainly made use of them when we wanted to. Now we don't need them, some people would like them to go away.
Hopefully the compassionate point of view prevails. Let the horses live in peace. There is plenty of room and we need to learn to share the space.
