The horrible truth of free range eggs. - Catherine - 03-25-2024

People see the words free range eggs and they think of happy chickens living natural lives outside with plenty of room to roam.
The truth couldn't be farther away from that image. Thousands of chickens are kept in crowded sheds. They lack everything possible. The places are not clean.
Birds live in stress and discomfort. Many die or are left to suffer.
This is factory farming at its worst.

You thought they couldn't get worse than caged eggs. The lives of free range hens is actually worse.
As long as we are obsessed with profits over animal welfare, the result will be animal suffering.

That really gets to the heart of the matter. Also, human nature being what it is, constant checks by animal welfare organisations are needed. Thank goodness they caught these three awful farms breaking the rules.

It is sad, but true that most places are only as good as the animal welfare checks they are subjected to.
If they caught three businesses there are probably others they haven't caught yet.

There is something particularly nasty about wanting people to think you treat animals well, when you actually are abusing them.
