The working birds of Toronto's Pearson Airport - Catherine - 05-11-2024

When you think of working animals you don't usually think of birds. Dogs come to mind and horses, but not birds.
Birds are a very real danger for a busy airport. Collisions with airplanes can be serious. So the airport employs a wildlife management team and about 25 birds of prey to patrol the skies and keep flocks of birds away. These are some of those birds.

They obviously do their job well. I have never seen a bird at the airport and there have been no accidents involving birds and planes.
This benefits humans, but itĀ also benefits the wild birds. The airport is not a safe place for them to hang out.
