Saving the older animals is vital to species survival - Catherine - 12-08-2024

Saving the older, wiser members of a species is vital to species survival. The older ones have knowledge and memories and an understanding of culture and the environment. That information needs to be passed on to younger members of the species. Without the knowledge a species declines.
When humans hunt they tend to take the biggest and oldest of a species. We do more than kill one animal. We take away generations of knowledge from the whole species.
That is possibly the reason that some species are slow to recover. They lack the knowledge of the older animals to know how to survive.
We need to make specific conservation efforts for older members of a species.

How did we not think of this?
Humans have forgotten the wisdom of our older species members.
We don't even think of the wisdom of older animals.

When was the last time you heard someone say they were going to visit a nursing home to gain some wisdom.
We put old people in nursing homes to get rid of them. We say we want them to be safe, but I think is is more that we don't want to be bothered.
I think old people have forgotten that they have experience and the wisdom that comes from living a long time.

Maybe if we start respecting older animals, we will start respecting older humans.
It would be good for all species involved.
