Endangered frogs transported 7000 miles to give birth safely. - Catherine - 02-04-2025 Fifty-two Darwin's frogs from Chile were transported to London Zoo to protect them from the deadly chytrid fungus. The fungus has been decimating frog populations. This was a desperate effort to save them. Eleven of the frogs have produced 33 new froglets. The hope is that the fungus can eventually be controlled and the frogs can be returned to the wild. https://www.cnn.com/2025/02/03/science/darwins-frog-daddies-chile-london-zoo-intl-scli/index.html This is a desperate conservation effort, but it has already produced 33 more frogs. We can save the frogs in captivity. Now we need to overcome the Chytrid fungus. It has proved deadly to many frog species. If we can beat this fungus we can save many species of frogs. I know there are scientists working on it. I wish them every success. |
