Unethical hunters using social media - Catherine - 03-08-2025 Two hunter in New York State posed as a female wildlife photographer on social media. They gained information about the location of deer in no hunting zones, on the premiss that they wanted to photograph them. They went into the woods disguised as hikers, killed deer and them removed them at night. They have been charged and have pleaded guilty to poaching. https://fstoppers.com/animal/poachers-posed-wildlife-photographers-illegally-hunt-deer-694881 Social media influencers in BC have been charged with illegal hunting. They were running a back country hunting site. Thy killed 2 Stone Sheep, 2 Mountain Goats, one Elk, and 4 Mule Deer. Multiple charges have been laid. https://www.ctvnews.ca/vancouver/article/group-of-hunters-including-social-media-influencers-face-43-wildlife-charges/ Social media can be used for so much good. It is sad when it is used to kill wildlife in protected areas. Posing as photographers and deceiving other photographers is a terrible thing. It means that people who care about animals are going to need to be more careful of their social media contacts. I find the whole concept of social media influencers to be ridiculous. Why would you let someone you don't know influence you. Clearly they are not all ethical and trustworthy. I hope all these people get charged for the crimes they committed and are found guilty. |
