Sugar Gliders dumped in a box outside a Scottish supermarket. - Catherine - 03-27-2025 Six Sugar Gliders were abandoned in Scotland in February. The were placed in a box outside a supermarket. Fortunately they were found in time and are now at Five Sisters Zoo in West Calder. They were probably someone's exotic pets and they found them too hard to look after. Five Sisters Zoo was created in 2005 to help animals like this. They have taken in animals from travelling circuses and roadside attractions. They have even taken in animals from war zones. The sugar gliders are in quarantine for now, but soon they will have a new habitat where they can live comfortably. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/czrnd136pydo It is fortunate the sugar gliders were not outside for long. It is too cold in Scotland in the winter for a tropical animal like a sugar glider. They would not have been able to find suitable food either. It is a good thing there is a group like Five Sisters Zoo to help animals like that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_Sisters_Zoo It would be interesting to visit the zoo if you were ever in the area. |
