Questions About Sphynx Cats and Dogs Living Together - annweslay - 06-29-2025

I’m thinking about adopting a Sphynx kitten and wanted to ask for a bit of advice. I already have an Australian Shepherd at home who’s friendly but has a ton of energy. Has anyone introduced a Sphynx cat to this breed (or a similarly active dog)? I’d love to hear how the dynamic went and if you have any tips for making the transition smooth.
Also, slightly unrelated, but I’ve been hearing mixed opinions about giving mushrooms to cats. Has anyone here ever tried giving mushrooms to a Sphynx kitten? Are there certain kinds that are safe, or is it best to avoid them altogether?
Thanks so much for any input you can share!

You are not specific about the type of mushrooms.

I have never heard of anyone feeding ordinary food mushrooms to cats. I don't think it is a normal part of a cat's diet. It is probably not a good idea.
I can't see any benefit to giving a cat mushrooms. They are better to stick to a carnivore diet.

If you are talking about the other type of mushrooms, I would say definitely no.
I don't think anyone has studied the effects of mushrooms on cats. There could be a real negative reaction.

I have heard of people with Sphynx cats also having dogs. It probably depends on the dog.
How is your dog with cats? Most kittens are fine with dogs and can really learn to love them.
You need to introduce them carefully. I wouldn't leave them alone right away.
Make sure the dog isn't made to feel jealous of a new kitten and make sure the kitten isn't threatened by the dog.

It should work out.
