Released endangered tree frogs surviving in Australia - Catherine - 08-14-2025 More than 600 captive bred endangered tree frogs were released in Victoria. The frogs suffered serious habitat loss during the 2019-2020 wildfires. It was hoped the release would increase their numbers and genetic diversity. More than half the released frogs have been found still alive. Some had traveled a good distance from the release point. https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/jul/22/critically-endangered-spotted-tree-frogs-survive-release-into-wild-victoria That is a successful release. Not only have they confirmed that at least half are still alive, they have confirmed that they are adapting and moving around freely in the release area. Hopefully this is enough to boost the survival of the wild population and help them to recover. |
