Rowdy Swan evicted from Stratford on Avon - Catherine - 10-03-2025 Stratford on Avon is home to many Mute swans. They are protected birds and technically all Crown property. The rowdy swan, Reggie, is a black swan. They were brought from Australia for private ponds, but sometimes end up loose. Reggie was aggressive to the Mute Swans, even trying to kill them. He has been captured and is being held temporarily before being transferred to the Dawlish Waterfowl Centre in Devon. They have a population of black swans. https://www.cbc.ca/radio/asithappens/reggie-black-swan-1.7649709 Maybe Reggie will settle down and be happy once he is living with other black swans. They are his own species so he should do better with them. This is what happens with introduced species. They don't really fit in and they can cause trouble for native species. They are not really happy, because they don't fit in. It is good that they acted to move Reggie before any harm came to the local Mute Swan population. |
