This is something I never thought about. Fresh animal poo is full of living gut cells. That means fresh DNA.
Collecting DNA can be a traumatic, invasive procedure. Collecting DNA from poo has no effects on the animal.
Collecting DNA from as many animals as possible and storing it allows for more genetic diversity later.
We are still working on the technology needed to use those cells.

This is brilliant. DNA could be collected from wild animals. It can be stored for use later when genetic diversity is becoming a problem for an endangered species.
There are a lot of species that are going to need this help in future if they are going to survive. It is just too bad that for some species it is too late.
