Tour group sees large Sea Otter raft in Tofino - Catherine - 11-23-2025 Sea Otters come together in groups called a raft. They float on the surface like a raft. Grouping like that makes life safer and easier for them. A whale watching tour got to see a raft of almost 100 otters. This is encouraging since Sea Otter numbers were reduced by the fur trade and they are not back to their original levels. https://cheknews.ca/never-seen-a-raft-this-large-conservationist-thrilled-to-see-large-otter-raft-during-tofino-trip-1290749/ What an amazing sight. They were really lucky to be in the right place at the right time. I don't know who named a group of Sea Otters a raft, but they sure got it right. |
