lephant seal finally rescued from plastic entanglement

Last fall an elephant seal was spotted with plastic around her neck. Friends of the Elephant Seal tried to help her, but she disappeared into the ocean.
Friends of the Elephant Seal volunteers spotted her again this spring. They observed her for a week before the day when a team from the Marine Mammal Center moved in to help the seal who had been named Necklace. She was thin and in poor condition and the plastic had cute deeply into her neck. 
They were able to free her and now she will be able to eat properly and heal.

It is sad that it took so long to rescue Necklace from the plastic. How many more marine animals die because they are not even spotted. 
For Necklace it is a happy ending after months of suffering. For other animals it is not so happy. To stop things like this we have to stop plastic pollution of the oceans. We have to find a way to clean up what is already in there. It is a big job, but we have to do it.
