Climate change threatens Australia's Spiny Crayfish
#1
Australia has 52 species of Spiny Crayfish. In 2019 three species were threatened, now 36 species are threatened.
The 2019-2020 bush fires damaged the habitat of 40% of the species. The water temperatures become too high or streams dry out.
The crayfish can't survive such drastic changes. Droughts and fires threaten them.
If their habitat recovers they can possibly recover. If things get worse....

Like many species, the survival of Spiny Crayfish hangs in the balance. It is going to depend on climate change and habitat loss.
What we do about climate change means life and death for many species. We have a very big responsibility here.
I hope we are up to it.
