Charles has been at the Toronto Zoo since it opened in 1974. He is 52 years old. He is a father and grandfather many times over.
In the wild Western Lowland Gorillas live 30-40 years. Charlie has done quite well. At 52 he is an old gorilla. He is receiving excellent care and the zoo veterinarians
are giving him medication that should help.

I am glad I got to see Charles when I was at the zoo a few weeks ago. He is a beautiful, gentle person and I might not get another chance to see him.
I know he will get the best care possible. His gorilla family and his human family will be there for him. Even if they improve his health now, he is still 52. He can't have much more time left. He has had a good life and I have enjoyed knowing him. I wish him all the best right now.
