Bears used to live free in Europe, long ago. Now in Romania, bears live free again. Around 13,000 bears live in Romania.
There is now a sustainable bear tourism industry in Romania.
In the southern Carpathian Mountains there is the Libearty Bear Sanctuary. It rescues and provides care for formerly captive bears.
The bears can't be released to the wild, but they can live out their lives in a comfortable sanctuary. In the last 20 years, 130 bears have called the sanctuary home.

It is wonderful to know that bears are coming back to Europe, at least in one country. It is also good that after years of bears in captivity, the bears are able to have a better life.
