People returning from their vacations got the worst news possible. Their beloved dogs had died.
The sheriff was called in and only one dogs was till alive. The bodies of 21 other dogs were found dead.
They lacked water and adequate ventilation. The owners have been charged

The building's ventilation system failed and the animals suffocated.
We have been going through some serious heat spells this summer. Something like this was predictable. Ventilation systems fail under extreme conditions.
This is not the first time a dog boarding facility has lost animals because of heating/ventilation system issues.
They should have had some kind of sensor that would alert them if the temperature got to high. The animals shouldn't have run out of water.
They could have put out extra water dishes for each dog. There are lots of things they could have done to protect the animals.
A simple thing like a ventilation system should not have been a life and death issue.
There should have been backup fans. Even in the extreme heat an open window would have provided oxygen.
I think animal boarding facilities need to have contingency plans for things like this.
The owners do need to be charged for their failure to protect and care for the dogs. That is not much comfort for the people who lost their pets.
