Severe weather kills Sumatran Orangutans
#1
Cyclone Senyar ravaged Sumatra in November 2025. More than a thousand people were killed.
It was thought that 35 orangutans were killed. That is about 7% of their species. The number is probably higher,
possibly much higher.

The loss of so many orangutans is devastating to the species. They are struggling to survive. Losing so many at one
is going to be hard to overcome. Also, the food supply was damaged by the storm. This is the consequences of
climate change in action. If we don't act on climate change, things like this will keep on happening.
