At 30 years old the turtle was finally old enough to reproduce and help insure the future of its species. Now some nasty tourists have pulled it from the water, broken its shell and left it to die. Tourists are doing a lot of harm to the Manitoulin area. They harass the spanning salmon. They move rocks around and mess up the ecosystem. They shower in the waterfall, with soap and shampoo, things that are toxic to wildlife. They take dangerous pictures so they can post them on line.
Signs are being put up to tell people what not to do.
Maybe fines are needed.

Sadly tourists bring in a lot of money for the area. They also do a lot of damage.
What kind of person would kill a turtle like that? Why? Nobody hates turtles.
Bathing in the falls and moving the rocks around is just typical bad tourist behavior.
I can't imagine why people harass the salmon.
I like to think that informing people of the harm they are doing will be enough to make them stop.
It won't be. Maybe people need to take training and get a license before they can be tourists.
If we want nature and beautiful places to survive we need to do something to protect it.
