San Diego Zoo Safari Park experienced a 5.2 earthquake on Monday. Its herd of African Elephants quickly formed a protective circle around the the youngest elephant, to protect her. The zoo has worked hard to give the elephants a natural habitat. It is working, the elephants responded with natural behavior.

It is interesting how quickly the elephants formed the circle. Forming a circle to protect the young is natural to a number of species.
They instinctively know that the young members of the herd are their future and they must protect them.
They also formed the circle in an open area. They know not to go near anything that could fall on them.
I wonder if humans would respond as well.
