There is a lot of work being done to protect turtles. In particular turtle nests are being protected and watched over.
There is now a group, the Turtle Stewardship Program in the Owen Sound area, near lake Huron, north west of Toronto.
They may be new, but they have over 100 volunteers already. They have built a number of turtle nest protectors. These boxes are placed over
a nest site to protect the eggs until hatching. The box has an opening on the side away from the road so hatchlings can leave the nest safely.
Nest sites are tracked and their status monitored. The boxes do protect the eggs from predators.

The boxes are a good idea. They provide just enough protection to increase the survival rate. Turtles have survived since the dinosaurs, but our traffic and human interference are putting them at risk.

With the help of various human groups, hopefully turtles will survive.
Since we have put them at risk, it is the least we can do.
