Jackie and Shadow are a Bald Eagle pair in California. They have been closely watched for years. Jackie has just laid her first egg of the year.
Hopefully there will be more. With Shadow's help for the next 35 days she will incubate the egg. Then hopefully there will be an eaglet or two.

Eggs don't always hatch and chicks don't always survive. Jackie and Shadow have done very well. Let's hope this is a good year.
There are so many things that can go wrong. The biggest threat to them now is a possible Gated Community proposed for their area.
Supporters of the eagles are fighting to prevent this. Noise, traffic and habitat destruction would have a negative impact on the eagles.
Let's hope they succeed in protecting Jackie and Shadow.
