Hawaii takes protecting its Monk Seals seriously. They are very endangered. A tourist threw a rock at a Monk Seal and he was arrested and will be charged.
There could be big fines and he could even spend a year in jail.

That is more like it. Hawaii takes protecting its animals very seriously. The guy threw a rock at a Monk Seal and now there will be consequences.
More places should react like this. If we are going to protect endangered species we need to really protect them. I hope he does the full year in jail. 
It might teach others a lesson.
