Animal shelter caring for deceased owner's dogs

Orange County Animal Services has found itself caring for four dogs from deceased pet owners.
They have occasionally had one pet from a deceased owner. Having four at once has been a wake up call about a problem pet owners need to face. 
What happens to our pets if anything happens to us. We need to plan for the possibility.

We don't want to think about things like this, but we love out pets. It is the last loving thing we can do for them.
No fourteen year old dog should end up at an animal shelter all alone, with little chance of finding a home for its last days.
Those of us with pets need to talk to friends and family and find out if anyone can step in of we can't be there.
Some shelters are starting to have programs to help in this situation. It might be good to check that out. 
Our pets are so dependent on us. We love our pets so we need to make some plans so that they will never be left without someone to care for them.
