It is a sad day for us in Toronto. Our dear Silverback Lowland Gorilla has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.
He died quietly with his loving human and gorilla family around him. He joins his girls Samantha and Josephine who crossed over ahead of him.
Charles has been with the zoo since it opened 50 years ago. Everyone knows Charlie. He leaves a very big hole in our hearts.

It is hard to think of him not being there. I am glad I did get to see him briefly a couple of weeks ago.
His gorilla family must be feeling lost without him. I am glad they have closed the building to give them and the staff time to mourn.
Goodbye Charles, I am going to miss you.
