Cat Employees?

In 1876 William L Alden wrote a funny article about cats being employed to deliver the mail in Belgium.
It seems it has surfaced and some people think it is true.
The British post office did employ cats as mousers. They even paid them. 
It was brought up in the House of Commons in the 1950s that cats had not been given a raise in years.
It was noted that cats are a bit unreliable as employees and they had not complained about their pay not being raised.

The idea of cats delivering the mail is hilarious. If people believe it now, they are lacking a sense of humour and the ability to recognize a joke.
