The deer appears to be drunk because it is drunk. Fruit left on trees in the winter ends up fermenting. In the spring animals eat the fruit and get drunk.
Birds do this all the time. Some places have to collect the drunken birds and keep them safe as they sober up.

Even chimps gather together to eat fermented fruit. I am wondering if animals are aware of what is happening and deliberately seek out the fermented fruit.
They must remember how the fruit made them feel. They would be able to smell the alcohol. I hope someone is studying this.
