A golden retriever went through the ice into the Ottawa River on Dec 23, 2024. The people sensibly called 911 and the rescue squad scrambled.
When they got there the dog was in the water struggling to stay afloat. With their special equipment and special training they were able to bring the dog to safety.
The dog was cold and wet, but he is fine.

The rescue squad is praising the owners for calling them so quickly. Earlier in December they not only had to rescue the dog, but the owner as well.
They tried to rescue their own dog without training or equipment. Water rescue is a job for the professionals.
Better yet, keep your dog off the ice. It isn't as thick as it looks and it is not safe to walk on.
