The Upper Credit Humane Society has been told that the town of Erin will not be renewing their lease as of May 2028.
The shelter has been there over 30 years. The land was donated to the city to be used for an animal shelter. The shelter provides vital services for the area.
The shelter and its work are an important part of the community.

The city wants the land for something else. The land is at a busy intersection now and has probably gone up in value.
It could make sense to build a new bigger shelter at a better location. It doesn't make sense for the city to just end its lease with the shelter.
They should be helping to plan a move to a bigger better location. The city could be a vital part in this. Instead they are just kicking the shelter out of its longtime home. I don't know what the shelter is going to do, but I hope the local community can rally around them and make it right.
Next election they can vote in a new city counsel to show what they think of their decision.
