Tutu the Humpback Whale has been tangled in abandoned gear. He was spotted off the coast of BC.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans had a team out there trying to free Tutu. They started on Thursday and they finally freed him on Saturday.
In all, there were 500 feet of rope, a buoy, two prawn traps and a 5-8 pound weight.

In spite of the entanglement, the whale just kept on swimming and they had a hard job keeping up with him.
Can you imagine how fast he is now without all that line. Well done DFO for a successful rescue.
Sadly for some whales, it doesn't end so well. We need to stop losing gear in the oceans. We need to find a way to clean up all the abandoned gear in the oceans.
While we are at it, we need to clean up all the plastic in the oceans too. We need to clean up the mess we have made of the oceans.
