Calgary shelter takes in 33 guinea pigs
#1
The Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society just took 33 guinea pigs from northern Alberta shelter. The shelter was overwhelmed with owner surrendered guinea pigs.
AARCS is now looking for foster homes, guinea pig supplies and fresh vegetables. Soon they will be looking for forever homes.

That is a lot of guinea pigs. I can't imagine how many vegetables they go through in a day. I only have one guinea pig and I go through a lot.
People get guinea pigs because they are so cute as babies. They underestimate how much care they need as adults. They underestimate how fast they can breed.
A female can get pregnant at 4 weeks old. Her daughters can get pregnant at 4 weeks old. Mom gets pregnant again on the day she gives birth.
Even cats don't multiply that fast. Guinea pigs make great pets, but you can't  keep males and females together and they do need a lot of fresh vegetables to keep healthy.
