The Royal Manitoba Winter Fair is cancelling its pig and calf scrambles after input from animal protection groups. In these scrambles young animals are released in a ring and children chase them and try to catch them. It would be very distressing to a young animal and there is possibility of injury. The children are just grabbing for them.
The Fair put the welfare of animals first.

I am glad to hear this. They considered the animals and their wellbeing to be more important than using them for entertainment.
If that attitude prevailed around the world, a lot of events would be cancelled.
I am originally from Manitoba so let me point out that the Winter Fair runs from March 29- April 2. It's Manitoba so it is still winter there.
