Something is very wrong when that sort of thing happens.
Olfert "hired a subcontractor"? What right did she have to do that, legally? Surely the "contract" was between Benoit family and the pet sitting company, and no-one else? Unless that possibility was among their terms and conditions?
If not, the Benoit family may have a right to sue.
One would think that if the Benoit family had a criminal record check of Olfert carried out, and handed over their house keys, then wouldn't they have had to sign something?
I am glad to hear the cats are safe. Thank goodness the toilet seat was not left closed!
