Wildlife killing contests should be illegal, but they are not

Wildlife killing contests take place in many countries. The Humane Society of the United States has published facts about the contests in the USA.

The practice is brutal. There is little regulation around the killing. They kill animals of all ages. Pregnant females have been killed. Mothers have been killed, leaving their babies to die. When they kill so many predators at once in an area, it destabilizes the ecosystem.
From an ecological point of view these contests are a terrible mistake. From a human point of view they are a mistake. The contests encourage behavior that makes us less human. Going out to take life for prizes is not exactly something we should be aiming for. How about a contest where we see who can do the most acts of kindness. That would benefit every one. A pile of dead coyotes benefits no one.
