North America is not rabies free. The disease is rare, but it does happen. Lately there have been cases.

There are other cases, almost too many to list.
We tend to think that rabies is not a problem anymore.
Clearly it is a problem. Rabid bats are turning up all over.
People are being bitten by them. Unless we start taking this more seriously there will be cases of pets and humans dying of rabies.
A lot of people don't bother to vaccinate their dogs and cats against rabies. That is no way for a pet to die.
If a pet gets infected, chances are its people will get infected.  If they don't get treatment right away, it will be too late.
We need to get serious about vaccinating out pets again. We need to find ways to vaccinate th wild animals that are at risk.
