The problem with backyard breeders
#1
Backyard breeders are people who are trying to make a profit from breeding. They lack the knowledge and understanding of the breed they are working with. They are unaware of the health issues of the breed. They do not do genetic testing to ensure the parents are healthy. The breeding conditions are poor. The females are over used. The puppies are weaned too soon so they are poorly socialized.
People buying these puppies end up with a poorly socialized pet with underlying health problems. Frequently these dogs end up in shelters because the owners
can't cope with them.

If you really want a purebred animal, go to a real breeder. They will be happy to have you come and see their dogs. They will let you meet the parents of any puppy you are considering. They will be able to show you any relevant health records. They will be able to tell you the family history of their dogs.
They might even have pictures of the parents as puppies.

A good breeder will want to tell you all about their dogs. They will keep records and be careful about which dogs they breed together.
For something like a dog that will live with you for years, it is worth the trouble to look for a good breeder and take your time choosing a puppy.
