Marineland's Beluga Whales, what is going to happen to them?
#1
Marineland in Niagara Falls, Ontario is now closed, but it still has a number of Beluga Whales on site.
The owners have died so it is not clear who is responsible for them. It is illegal to exploit the whales or breed them in Canada.
Marineland wants to sell them to a theme park in China. They have applied for the permits to do this.

The Chinese theme park would be exploiting the whales for entertainment purposes. That would be illegal under Canadian law.
How could it be right to sell them to be used in a way that is illegal in Canada.
The whales need to go to a marine sanctuary. So far they haven't built the one in Nova Scotia.
Humans have exploited these Beluga Whales long enough. They have been captive in small tanks all their lives. It is time we made it right and gave them the best possible future. They can't go free. They would not survive. A marine sanctuary would return them to the ocean under special conditions. They would be cared for and protected and given the best life possible.

Selling them to a theme park is totally wrong.
