Hippos are not native to Colombia. The hippos that are there all come from the four that were imported.
They can't be returned to Africa. They are dangerous and destructive to Colombian ecology. The have tried a neuter and release program. They have tried catching them and sending them to zoos. They have already tried a cull.

I don't know what the solution is. When a non native species establishes itself and does a lot of damage, something has to be done.
The hippos didn't ask to be taken to Colombia. They didn't ask to be turned loose to multiply and do damage. This is a problem caused by humans, but the hippos are going to pay the price. I wish someone could come up with a better solution than a cull.
